- Australia's leading 200m runner Gout Gout recently smashed a record by Usain Bolt
- Gout's coach Dianne Sheppard is using VueMotion to make the sprinting prodigy even faster
- AI-powered insights are becoming an essential tool for coaches and athletes.
Australia's leading 200m runner, Gout Gout, is rewriting with record-breaking sprints that have shaken up the athletics world. This 16-year-old prodigy has not only set new standards but has a secret weapon that's amplifying his performance - VueMotion.
Vuemotion, an AI-powered video assessment tool that Sheppard incorporates into her coaching, allows her to identify and address specific areas for improvement.
“We’ve been using VueMotion to pick up symmetry or asymmetry,” Sheppard shared.
“With Gout, we noticed he was weak on his left side, resulting in an imbalance and the technology picked it up straight away.”
Sheppard explained how VueMotion has enabled them to refine Gout’s technique and correct imbalance.
“We’ve since worked on that to get his left side stronger. There’s no doubt the insights we’ve got from VueMotion have allowed us to improve his performance, absolutely!”
VueMotion’s video feedback has also been invaluable for helping Gout understand his movements better.
“Athletes learn so much better with video,” Sheppard added. “Being able to watch themselves puts it all in context, and they pick it up much quicker.”
This data-driven approach has helped identify Gout’s natural abilities and also helped Sheppard identify and work on things that may have otherwise been overlooked.
“It’s great for me because I’m not great at science. VueMotion fills that gap and provides me with all of the angles and data that I otherwise wouldn’t be able to access or fully understand. It makes sense of it all.”
Sheppard, who coaches a number of athletes, also cited the simplicity and efficiency of VueMotion, allowing her to test her whole squad.
“The other thing I really like is that the tests can be done for each individual. The athletes often run in groups and we are all working with tight budgets and time constraints. But we are able to test each athlete for a very reasonable cost and get that personalised insight which isn’t always easy.”
Gout’s breakthrough came at the 2024 World Under-20 Championships in Peru, where he ran the 200m in 20.60 seconds, breaking a record once held by Usain Bolt at the same age and earning international recognition.
In November, Gout took to the track at the Queensland All Schools Championships, where he delivered one of his most impressive performances to date. Racing the 200m in 20.29 seconds, he broke the Australian record over this distance. His nearest competitor finished almost two seconds behind, underscoring the sheer speed he brings to the field.
Not one to stop at a single win, Gout also claimed victory in the 100m with a time of 10.31 seconds. His ability to excel across both distances highlights his unique blend of power and speed, establishing him as an athlete to watch in the coming years.
The VueMotion team are excited to see Gout’s career unfold and continue to provide him with the world’s best AI-powered video analysis and measurement platform.
